Combining the looks and sounds of a traditional wood-burning fireplace and the convenience of electric heating, the Bionaire BFH5000-UM Electric Fireplace Heater is an attractive supplement to your central heating system.
The BFH5000-UM looks like a desktop monitor with a wide frame. In place of the screen, however, is a heat-resistant glass window revealing realistic-looking logs and embers. When the unit is turned on, the logs and embers emit a glow that appears to come from fire. As if this is not enough to bring about the old romance of traditional fireplaces, the unit is equipped with an audio system that emits sounds of crackling logs on fire. And you get these without the need to gather and chop logs, kindle them, or to clean up the residue.
Below the glass window are vents allowing the flow of air from inside the heater into your room. Controls are mounted at the top of the frame consisting of the on/off switch, thermostat, timer, flame brightness, audio volume, and Celsius/Fahrenheit adjustment buttons.
The thermostat allows the adjustment of temperature levels starting at 68°F to 80°F. Within this range, however, adjustments can only be made in increments of 2°F. The timer can be set to turn the unit on to pre-heat the room, and to turn it off in 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 12 hours. Flame brightness has three levels while audio volume has four levels of loudness including "mute". Except for the Celsius/Fahrenheit button, these controls can be accessed via a remote device.
The heater can be installed freestanding either on the floor or on a table or counter. And since it is only 4 inches thick without the removable base, it can also be hung on the wall. For your safety, it is equipped with a tip-over and overheating protection.
